Wales to Guyana

There is a whole world of international cricket most people never hear about. Masters cricket gives players a second international career, with Wales fielding seniors sides across the age groups from over forties up to over seventies, playing in the seniors county championships and in World Cups against full strength sides from across the cricketing world.

And Wales turn up when it matters. At the seniors World Cup in Chennai in 2024, the Wales over sixties beat India, the West Indies and a Rest of the World side, and posted one of the tournament's highest totals along the way. Not bad for a nation that gets lumped in with England on the professional stage.

In October 2026 the Masters Cricket World Cup heads to Guyana, with sixteen nations playing forty five over cricket at grounds across the country and a final at the National Stadium in Providence. Wales have been drawn in a group that includes the host West Indies and Australia, so nobody is easing into this one.

Here is the part that surprises people. Seniors internationals pay their own way. Flights, accommodation, kit and tournament fees all come out of the players' own pockets, and a tour on the other side of the Atlantic runs into thousands of pounds per player. These are people who have given their whole lives to Welsh cricket, and the price of representing their country is a bill.
